  The LTM2881 is an isolated RS485 transceiver that guards against large ground-to-ground differentials. An onboard DC/DC converter provides isolated 5V power to the output. This application note shows the LTM2881 configured as a dedicated isolated power supply with the RS485 transceiver disabled, providing a simple powerful general purpose isolated power supply capable of delivering 1W at 5V.

  Components n В® The LTM 2881 is an isolated RS485 transceiver that guards
  against large ground-to-ground differentials. An onboard
  DC/DC converter provides isolated 5V power to the output.
  Figure 1 shows the LTM2881 configured as a dedicated
  isolated power supply with the RS485 transceiver disabled,
  providing a simple powerful general purpose isolated power
  supply capable of delivering 1W at 5V. Figure 2 shows a
  logically-controlled switched output by taking advantage of
  the isolated RS485 driver to control a discrete PMOSFET.
  The controlling signal DI operates relative to the VL supply, which supports voltages from 1.62V to 5.5V. In both
  configurations, observation of a VCC2 fault is accomplished
  by observing a high impedance condition on RO or DOUT .
  When VCC2 is greater than 2.6V, RO and DOUT are driven
  to the appropriate logic level based on the inputs A and
  B and DIN. When VCC2 is less than 2.4V, RO and DOUT are

  Integrated Into a Surface Mount Package
  Keith Bennett Galvanic isolation is used in a variety of industries, most commonly to provide safety
  against potentially lethal voltages. Isolation is also used to eliminate the effects of noise
  and common mode voltage differences created by ground loops, or as a level shifter
  between dissimilar operating voltages. Typically, building an isolated system requires
  a number of passive and active components on either side of the isolation barrier, in
  addition to the barrier components themselves. These barrier components can be
  optical, magnetic, capacitive, RF or even GMR (giant magnetoresistance) devices.
  Barrier components are notoriously difficult to use, adding significant design
  time and cost to isolated systems. With
  this in mind, Linear Technology has
  developed a line of ВµModuleВ® isolators that reduces the design of isolated
  systems to simply plugging in a module—no complex barrier components
  are required. In fact, ВµModule isolators
  require no external components at all.
  Linear Technology ВµModule isolators
  use magnetically coupled techniques to
  provide data and power isolation in a
  single package. The result is an easy-touse, low power, robust solution with
