Introduction
Video cable driver ampliп¬Ѓer output stages traditionally
require a supply voltage of at least 6V in order to provide
the required output swing. This requirement is usually
met with 5V supplies by adding a boost regulator or a
small local negative rail, say via the popular LTВ®1983-3.
Such additional circuitry is unnecessary in typical 1VP-P
video connections, such as HD component video, if the
cable driver ampliп¬Ѓers simply offer near rail-to-rail output
capability when powered from 5V.
Standard deп¬Ѓnition and SVGA (800 Г— 600 pixel) low voltage
devices have been available from Linear Technology for
some time (see Design Note 327), but a number of recent
device developments have made it possible to produce
high resolution video devices that operate on a single 5V power supply. Some parts that п¬Ѓt this mold include the
LT6556, a UXGA-resolution (1600 Г— 1200 pixel) RGB 2:1
input-port buffered multiplexer (MUX); the LT6557 and
LT6558 UXGA п¬Ѓxed gain triple ampliп¬Ѓers that include
on-chip biasing to minimize external part count; and the
LT6559 triple ampliп¬Ѓer that provides п¬‚exible, cost effective …

Introduction
Cutting edge, high resolution workstation displays demand cutting edge
bandwidth and slew rate specs of their
video ampliп¬Ѓers. Displays supporting
1920 Г— 1200 pixels, for example, must
handle over 200Mpixels/s, less than
п¬Ѓve nanoseconds per pixel! System
supply voltages have also been dropping in order to accommodate the new,
faster digital processor technologies.
Historically the fast ampliп¬Ѓers used for
these formats required a total power
supply of at least 6V, particularly in
cable driver applications. Enter the
LT6557 and LT6558, ultra-fast triple
video ampliп¬Ѓers with internally п¬Ѓxed
gains of two and unity, respectively.
These devices have been speciп¬Ѓcally
engineered to operate on single supply voltages down to 3.3V and yet
maintain high bandwidth. Now it is
